MUET ASSIGNMENT- 25/08

(Page 19)

Summary
Recently, the Philippines has declared a "war" against the sexual exploitation of children online, especially those that we call predators. In this modern era, many underage netizens aged between 12 and 17 years old are exposed to the dark side of the internet, and the number of recorded cases increases drastically, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown in their country. Generally, child pornography is basically a really serious problem and everyone should be concerned about it, but sadly, this particular issue has been a problem for centuries in the Philippines and it often gets neglected by the authorities due to other issues that overshadow this agenda. Concerned about this, many agencies promised to handle and fight against the sexual exploitation of children online.

Personal commentary
During the pandemic, it is without a doubt that many people have been affected. We cannot deny the number of families who worked extremely hard just to make ends meet. On the other hand, irresponsible parents end up prostituting or selling their own children for money and offering them to the predator to satisfy their lusts. Being a sex slave at a young age is like losing your own life, and society will definitely create a lot of conspiracy theories about child porn victims. To sum up, the Philippines needs to realise that they need to implement various ways in order to curb this case for the children's sake, as they are the ones that will lead the country one day.
